Description
Shelby Apple is an award-winning documentary filmmaker who has spent his life capturing war zones and disaster areas through his camera lens. For many years, he has been fascinated by the story of a prehistoric man whose remains, discovered more than forty thousand years after his death, were removed to a lab for study. Shelby becomes committed to seeing this "first man" returned to his original burial site alongside the now dry Lake Learned in New South Wales. Some forty thousand years in the past, Shade lives with his second wife amidst their clan on the shores of a bountiful lake. A peaceable man, he knows that when danger threatens, the Hero ancestors will call on him to kill or sacrifice himself to save his people. It is a burden he bears with dignity. Epochs apart but united in heart and feeling, Shelby and Shade have reached the point in their lives when they must confront their own mortality, let go of youthful mistakes, and look to what sort of legacy they will leave behind.
